I am writing to ask you to join Reps. Barney Frank, John Campbell, Rush Holt, Walter Jones, Gwen Moore and Ron Paul in calling on the President and the leadership of Congress to initiate a review of our worldwide military commitments with the outcome of significantly lowering expenditures so that we can reduce the deficit and meet the urgent needs of the American people.

They express the problem well: "We believe that making a substantial impact on these problems will require significant reductions in military spending, and doing this without harming American national security requires not only the elimination of waste and mismanagement at DoD, but also an honest and realistic assessment of current U.S. military goals. These strategies often involve outdated assumptions that leave the United States spending money on commitments as well as weaponry that are in fact relics of the Cold War era."

Sixty-five years after World War II, nearly six decades after the Korean War, almost four since the end of the Vietnam War, and two decades since the Cold War ended our country continues to maintain a global military force structure that has not fundamentally changed (except to grow larger and obscenely more costly). Yet the world has changed dramatically!

Why do we maintain (and pay for) a mid-20th Century military in the 21st Century?

What is the justification for maintaining a global network of more than 1000 military bases at a cost in excess of $250 billion? Why do we still need bases in England, Germany, Italy, and Japan? Aren't these nations capable of defending themselves?

Why do we cling to thousands of destabilizing nuclear weapons? Why does the president propose to spend $180 billion over the next ten years to "modernize" rather than eliminate these weapons of mass destruction?

This year U.S. military spending will constitute 43% of all military spending in the world - more than the next 14 countries combined. It's been more than 20 years since the Chief Financial Officers Act was imposed on all federal agencies and departments, requiring the Pentagon to pass annual audits at the simplest level.

Why has the Pentagon gone unaudited while defense expenses have grown by almost 80% since 2001?

Sixteen percent of our people are unemployed or under-employed, 43 million live in poverty, 50 million are without healthcare, millions have lost their homes or are at risk of doing so, our nation's infrastructure is dangerously degraded, climate change threatens our coastlines, food and waters supplies, firehouses are being closed, teachers, police and other public workers are being laid off, our social safety net is unraveling, and our cities and states are in fiscal crisis.

How can we justify these expenses in the face of such conditions?

We need a complete reappraisal of our priorities. We need a new definition of "national security."

Please sign this letter and stand with those in Congress who recognize that our country must not continue down the road it is now on. (A copy of the letter is available at http://uslaboragainstwar.org/downloads/July%202011%20dear%20colleague.pdf.)

DOWN RIGHT APPALLING.

It is appalling to see people with moral values, integrity, ethics, and a real passion
and ability to lead our Federal, State and
local governments fail.
Falling into a trap of control by special
interest lobbies, insiders with the power
and clout to influence and cause the immoral,
corrupt, and unconstitutional alliances.
Such corruption stands on a false pretense.
of being a faith based religious institution,
and actually asking GOD to bless them.
Not only by propaganda, but also by organizing chapters in every state, becoming
involved in main stream media, universities,
political science, law, and theology schools.
Of course we hear alot of old testiment theory,
but very little of the new testiment or the son
of God "Jesus".
Starting in the 1950's, recognized by JFK,
RFK, and MLK in the 1960's. Now has spread
to a globalization represented in several
major Countries and governments.
Checks and balances have gone by the way-side.
It is time to stand up and be counted for the
good of our Country, families, and future.
Change, has to be on the agenda of all.
Regardless of political party, the controlling
interest is very evident.
If we do not fight the apartheids now, we will
end up with-in one soon. IF we haven't already.
Republicans were in majority, now the Democrats are, we Americans do not see
a difference.
We all need to become Americans again.
Do what is necessary for OUR Country,
not party or bias religion.

CAUSE: Israel, AIPAC, and Mossad, with
USA government officials support. WHY?
Lobby money and greed. (Corruption}
